Assessment
Students will be provided with criteria for the completion of any assessment activity including assignments, project, workplace activity, examinations or group activities. Complete your assessment activity in-line with the set criteria. This may include word processing standards, referencing, lay-out and presentation methods or styles. Standards of work are reflective of the content, performance criteria or elements required of a module, group of modules, competencies or in-line with relevant and current workplace practices.
Competency based assessment
We use competencies at GCIT as the basis for assessment in all programs. In order to pass your program and be considered competent in your chosen study area you must complete all the requirements of your program to the specified industry standard. You will be assessed according to current industry standards and marked as either competent (J) or not yet competent (M).
Performance level assessment
In some programs an additional grade is added to the 'competent' result to identify a high level of achievement. A PLA result can give a student a Credit, Distinction or High Distinction level on their competency grade.
Vocational placement
Learning at GCIT is about gaining industry skills and experience along with a qualification. Learn from industry professionals in real work situations and be assessed on your performance in the workplace. The vocational placement element varies from program to program as students either get placed with an employer in the industry or get their experience working in one of our training facilities that are open to the public.
