Visa & international requirements

Study can be a great way to earn additional points to assist with your Permanent Residency application. Certain professions have been identified as shortages within the workforce in Australia and you may be able to gain additional points by completing training in these areas. If you wish to study for longer than 12 weeks, you will require a student visa. You can now apply online for a student visa whether you are inside or outside of Australia. Contact the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Citizenship for information on applying for your student visa, requirements and documentation. Further information about visas is available from the Australian Embassy, High Commission or Consulate General in your country.

Student fees

International student fees are paid prior to the commencement of the course. The initial payment of fees will vary depending on the course length. English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS)/English Language Programs for International Students (ELPIS) fees are paid in full prior to commencement of study, whereas certificate and diploma (formal) courses are charged per semester.

Working while you study

International students may work up to 20 hours per week. If you would like to work while you are here, you will be able to apply for permission to work after commencing your course. Find out how to apply online by going to the Online Services-Students page of the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Citizenship website.

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

Overseas Student Health Cover is compulsory for all international students on student visas. If you are travelling on a different visa, we recommend you purchase travel insurance or private medical insurance. The Gold Coast has State Government hospitals and a variety of private hospitals available. Specialist care is plentiful ranging from dental and optical to general practitioners.
